Thursday, June 2nd, 2022 10:03 pmAchey day, not helped at all by massage that just highlighted how much my right side is in spasm. Took the subway the one stop back to Bathurst because I couldn't face walking it again. But every third person in the car was unmasked even though masks are mandatory. Thought of taking the Bathurst bus up but it wasn't coming for 15 minutes so walked the three blocks up to my entrance street (the one cars have to take to get to my house) on the corner of which is a restaurant where I stopped for a double gin and tonic. The irony of which is, three years ago when I was theoretically in better shape than now, I was walking my bike home (flat) and had to stop at this restaurant for two g&ts to dull the pain.
But as my bro says, alcohol is the great analgesic so I was able to limp over to the polling place where I duly voted for our safe incumbent. Pretended I was Australian and had to vote, because it will make no difference. Toronto won't vote for our drug-dealing premier and the rest of the province will. It's the way Ontario rolls: we elect whatever is the opposite of the Feds. Liberal PM guarantees a Conservative premier. And as Conservative PMs do more damage than Conservative premiers, our loss is Canada's gain. Not that the rest of Canada appreciates our sacrifice.
However, in the late afternoon the muggy louring sky cleared up and a fresh wind blew and my achey pains eased off and I trotted down to the library to get my hold and then over to the souvlaki place for their Thursday special shawarma. And because it was so cheap and I'd just been reading about how food costs are biting restaurants, I tipped them five dollars and the guy was so overcome he kept offering me free pop which I said I couldn't have, and baklava which I also said I couldn't have, and finally pressed two containers of tzatziki on me, which I gratefully accepted. The shawarma was so good I'd eat it every day except- pita, rice, tomatoes, green pepper, and even the full-fat tzatziki are all things I either shouldn't eat, or eat only in moderation. Doubtless that's why I want to eat them.
But at least it's cool and dry now and I can sleep in my hoodie under the duvet with the window fan blowing cool air over me and hot beanbags consoling the various twingy body parts.
