I tell myself that I'm dragging my feet on watching JS&MN because I don't like watching stuff and would rather read yadda yadda. In fact, I drag feet because when I've watched it all it will be over and there's nothing left that will take me Elsewhere so quickly and entertainingly. Watched eps 5 and half of 6 last night, and went off to have the strange dreams I do have these cool nights after watching that far-away place. Coolness will end tonight or tomorrow night, and so will Jonathan Strange.

Your thought processes as described here are uncannily like my own, both the preference for reading instead of watching and the conviction that if you actually enjoy something of this sort, your should push it away because you won't have it to do anymore once you're finished.

This makes me feel a bit better about the whole thing. (Mostly I am annoyed at myself because everyone else seems to be watching TV and I'm not, so I can't discuss things fannishly.)

Lack mentality is us. I do try for a carpe diem mindset, and I do in fact generally prefer print to action, but only because books are more likely to deliver than the crime shows and comedies that seem to make up most of TV. (This is quite aside from the need for an expensive digital TV and even more expensive cable to get the good stuff.)

Give me a subscription to BBC, PBS, and the Canadian equivalents of same, and I'd watch a lot more than I do.

Yes. It's terribly bittersweet, knowing that there won't be any more, and therefore not wanting to watch the last bit *quite* *yet*.

Given that I've already forgotten what happened in the book that I finished a bare week ago (at least, I've forgotten what happens to Lascelles and Childermass and Vinculus) one can always go back and rewatch. But that first fine rapture is confined to the first fine viewing.
