Harriet the Spy
I know, as who does not, that nightshades are death on arthritic joints. This leaves one at a loss when trying to follow a Mediterranean diet: no peppers or tomatoes or eggplant, which leaves you with what? Zucchini and a lot of salad. But Fiesta had a bunch of beefsteak tomatoes in what a former roommate once called 'the used vegetable bin' and they weren't as used as all that and hell, I thought, I'm already on the heaviest duty anti-inflams there are. So for the past three days I've been rejoicing in tomato and mayonnaise sandwiches. Well, tomato and MiracleWhip Lite, because my mayonnaise expired in the spring of 2021. It doesn't have quite the taste of my childhood but will do. (Of course my childhood bread was white sliced and the mayonnaise was full fat Hellman's and I don't think I could stomach either now. Mayonnaise is straightforward bland, is why I started using Miracle Whip.)
And it seems the riper the tomato, the fewer the owie causing alkaloids, so though my elbows are unhappy, my knees are fairly reasonable. Hips hurt, but that's because I don't walk enough in the house. We're having a 'heat event' with high humidex readings and the air stinks. So I stay in with the fans going and the window AC at night and am happy. Especially considering that guy who was in solitary for 44 years and survived, so I have nothing to complain of.
