Must really say 'Damn!', to quote the Dowager Duchess. My superb standing Holmes fan died today, quietly and without fuss. Yesterday it turned on, today it simply didn't. I thought it had been getting a little hot lately and so kept its use to night time, but oh well. It was a second-hand pass on more years ago than I can remember, so had good innings. Shall not be replacing it with a new Holmes because with tax they cost over $200. Have ordered a five blade fan that they promise is wind tunnel strong even on lowest setting, and hope it is.
(Yes of course I have other standing fans- two of them- plus three window fans of varying strength and a couple of table fans. I just don't have a standing fan *in that room*.) (And I'm trying not to be superstitious about all these niggling things going wrong on each other's heels.)

Hitachi is nearly as expensive as Holmes over here. Quality costs.

Gloom and doom Eeyore here takes all synchronous events as Portents and has done all my life. Mostly I ignore the reflex but the solitary life foes tend to reinforce the habit.
