This is the honeymoon time of year when money shows up unexpectedly and unexplained (see that $500 from last week.) Today's gift was my recalculated property tax, which doesn't always qualify. But I seem to detect a pattern. January to June sees a hefty increase; July to December sees an almost equal decrease. Then the city very kindly sends me the forms to ask for a chunk back. And so we stagger through this bear market, with an increasing sense of 'this cannot go on forever.'

My economic state very much reflects my physical. Having noticed that Tylenol is actually a pretty good pain reliever, I've been cutting back on the heavy duty anti-inflams which do nothing for muscle aches. But Tylenol is no match for muggy heat, even if today was neither as muggy nor as hot as it will be, so knees snarled at me. I would like to be able-bodied again, whereas there's always something new going wrong. Today's is stuffed sinuses inducing mild vertigo and much recourse to the Epley manoeuvre.

But I did unearth my other dustpan, which was hiding in the recycle box. This after buying two new ones, so that now, like reading glasses, I have an upstairs dustpan and a downstairs, and a front garden one and a back.
