Cool breezy sunny day is perfect drying weather and less than perfect 'sweep last year's dry dead leaves into garden waste bags' weather. But I managed to get the porch relatively tidy and the front planter 90% cleaned out, in spite of back having conniptions about the whole thing. Then went over to Bathurst and had a double Long Island tea because pain. Ate outside because of course I did but if I ever go there again in the evening I'll eat inside. They have a large screen TV tuned to the sports network showing a hockey game and an hysterical announcer, volume on high,  screaming HE SCORES!!!! every three minutes. Was anyone watching the game? No. Couples having conversations with each other and me reading Brideshead Revisited. Why do restaurants do this?

I was never one for What is so rare as a day in June/ Then if ever come perfect days, because June in Toronto is mug and too warm or too wet or too thunderous or whatever. Perfect days come in May. But once in a while June is indeed marvellous, and today was like that. Lows of 10/12C ie 50sF, highs 20 or 22, ie low 70sF, and *dry*, which is what makes or breaks it. I still think of this as  '84 weather, that expansive moneyed summer of outdoor BBQs at friends' places, though it was also a pretty hot summer. What we have now is more '85, not as social but much pleasanter, the Brunswick summer. Long ago and far away and so much better than it is today.
