Medical mysteries

Weird. Just had one of those mysterious inner thigh cramps that come from sitting on the couch, only this was sitting in the rocking chair, worse luck. But after several agonizing minutes bent over the bed at a 90 degree angle, the one position that doesn't make things worse, I finally remembered the fix-- pressing the skin between thumb and forefinger HARD. At which the pain simply disappeared and I could walk again.

You'd think someone could give a medical name and reason for these things, as also for the cure.

Isn't the name for the cure acupressure?
And I'm pretty sure that there's lots of explanation in Asian medical literature of the reasons for these connections; it's just that there hasn't yet been developed a common "language" which make the Asian understanding "readable" in the Western medical framework.

True, it's acupressure, but that's a general term. I'd like to know specifically what nerve is being affected by acupressing the skin between thumb and forefinger, and what nerve is involved in the original cramp.

You're right about the west not accepting Asian terminology, but given the number of people who experience this (extreme- likened to labour pangs) pain, I'm surprised that there's no western term for it in the first place.
