So pleased at no hunger headache before or post-sedation wobbliness after procedure, and general clear-headedness and well-being in spite of little sleep. Yesterday evening prepped an entire basket of strawberries (short-season Ontario ones, hence over-ripe, but so much better than imported) to go on morning cereal, a task I usually avoid. Then couldn't find them anywhere this morning.

Of course I'd put them in the freezer.

Ah well, I suppose I can make granitas from them, once I google granita.

Aww, your poor cereal! The frozen ones are also good in smoothies, if you make and drink those things. And it turns out frozen makes better jam because all the cell walls have been broken by the freezing. Who knew?!

I've had too many bananas in my life to ever want any more, so no smoothies for me. I might try making jam some time, except for the whole boiling the jars thing, which in some countries is considered unnecessary.

I have been making what what I guess could be called spoonsweets, but is basically instant jam for lazy people. Heat a tbsp of butter in a sauce pan, when melted adding a couple cupful of berries or other fruits, brown sugar or honey to taste (not much, a couple tbspful is plenty), and a splash of brandy or other spirit. cook on low until the fruit breaks down, maybe 10 minutes. Keeps in a bowl for a week, though it's usually gone before then.

Mmm, that sounds delicious. I make 'freezer jam' which is just cooked fruit and some sweetener, stored in the freezer or fridge so I don't have to can it.

I never, ever put bananas in smoothies. I just don't like bananas enough for that!

Both of those appeal greatly to lazy me.

So what do you use to bind your smoothies together?

Hmm, I don't think in terms of binders. I think anything frozen, fruit, ice, etc. will make a smoothie thick enough to not separate. I'm sure it will separate over time, but I drink mine up quickly rather than nurse it along all day like some people. For me, nursing a drink all day is tea.

I like to dump in some of greek yogurt sometimes, that probably acts like banana or ice cream in terms of a binder. This year's smoothie of choice is 1 ripe peach, 1/3 pkg frozen spinach or kale, small amount of orange juice or water just to get the blender moving.

I'm wondering if throwing oat and wheat bran in there would work. It probably would but would make things gritty.
