Reader's quandary

Do Not Read The Comments also applies to authors' blogs. People are saying things on Aaronovitch's that make me think I might want to stop reading Broken Homes right now and wait till vol 5 comes out. Am envisioning some sort of hideous Riddle Master of Hed cliff-hanger that will have me cursing steadily for another year. What say ye who have read?

Must say, third of the way in, it's already getting a bit grim, and Aaronovitch talking about Nazi slave labour camps in his blog does not make me feel any better.

Yes, something does happen near the end of Broken Homes. Yes, it will leave you wanting to know what happens next. But I don't think it's on the scale of "leave you hovering on the brink of a revelation till the next book comes out".

(You will probably be throwing things at me in England when you get there, though.)

For what it's worth, the comment on the blog about research re Alderney and Nazi slave labour camps relates to the back history of a particular character, as part of the explanation of their current geographical location. It makes sense in context.

Ah well then, I shall persevere. Probably would anyway, just because, but all those 'oh how *could* you??!!' comments on his blog were giving me pause.

I don't think you'll find it too unpleasant in the "yuck" sense, though you will certainly be looking forward to the next book.

Ahhhhh >_> I dunno how I feel about this, man. I usually prefer books without cliffhangers, unless it's declared upfront to be part 1 of N (I treat "series" and "N-logies" differently in my mindset, but I could be wrong.)

Guess I'll just wait for book five ...
