Not a music person, but still

[meme] Think of 15 albums that had such a profound effect on you they changed your life or the way you looked at it. These are the albums that no matter what they were thought of musically shaped your world. When you finish, tag 15 others, including me. Make sure you copy and paste this part so they know the drill. Get the idea now? Good. [/meme]

Listing the year I first heard them.

1. Puccini, La Boheme (classic Victoria de los Angeles, Jussi Björling recording) '58
--which led to Turandot and Marriage of Figaro and them, but they're all subsumed under the first

2. Beatles, Help, '65
3. Simon & Garfunkel, Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme, '66
4. Judy Collins, Wildflowers, '67
5. Jefferson Airplane, Surrealistic Pillow, '67
6. Leonard Cohen, Songs of Leonard Cohen, '67
(Bliss was it in that dawn to be alive...)

There were songs all through the 70s, but no one album that I can remember except
7. Bruce Springsteen, Darkness on the Edge of Town, '79
--which marked a major transition period in my life

8. Pauline Julien, Fleurs de Peau, '84
--borrowed LP from library, taped, could never find in a record store. Someone is now selling it for $100.
9. Warren Zevon, Excitable Boy, 80-something
--really belongs to '94, but I did hear it earlier
10. Leonard Cohen, Various Positions, '85
--which marked the second major change, the one that led to:
11. Tanimura Shinji, Subaru, '89
--music to see Japan by
12. Warren Zevon, Desperadoes Under the Eaves, '91
-- music to live in Japan by
13. Loreena McKennitt, Parallel Dreams, '96
--music to come home from Japan by
14. Onitsuka Chihiro, Insomnia, '02
15. Any number of candidates, but I'll pick one randomly:
Paul Simon, Graceland, '86

Onitsuka Chihiro is awesome, I fell in love with her voice a long time ago and was surprised to find out recently that it belongs to a little slip of a girl. I have a habit of constructing mental images of people I know only by voice (singers, DJs) and am invariably surprised by what they really look like...

Not sure I can think of 15 albums that did anything as dramatic as changed my life though. For one thing 15 is a goodly proportion of the albums I've actually lisatened to...

I was going to say, this meme seems to apply to a very precise age group. I'm on one side of it chronologically and you're on the other, but I think music for both of us defaulted to individual songs. It was single 45s till I was in my late teens, /then/ albums as the default, then a period when I wasn't listening to music, and then everyone was DLing songs to their ipods.
