D: Have you ever played that game with the Protestant Hymnbook?
Me: ...game?
D: Yes. You open it to a random page, and read off the title of the hymn, but like with a fortune cookie, you add "...in bed" at the end.
Me: *delighted*
Me: *tries*
Me: Ohhh. HEE.
D: I know. Go on.
Me: *reads* 'I Need Thee Every Hour...'
D: Go on.
Me: ..In Bed.
Us: *snicker*
Me: *flips pages*
Me: *reads* 'Hold Fast Till I Come...'
Us: *SPORFLE*

And so we sat and read various things like 'He Will Hold Me Fast...In Bed', 'Lord and Master of Us All...In Bed', 'When He Cometh...In Bed', 'Trust and Obey...In Bed', 'Come and Dine...In Bed' and giggled our heads off until

Me: *reads* 'Christ, You Are My Fullness'
Me: ...
Me: *closes book*

And then the comments.

"Let Us Talents and Tongues Employ", "Savior, Sprinkle Many Nations", "How Great Thou Art", "Alas, and Did My Savior Bleed."

I have to say, Protestants have it all over Catholics in the hymn department. I only remember a handful from my convent education, mostly about Mary, plus Panis Angelicus. The only one that even vaguely works is the lugubrious Come Holy Ghost. Oh no, wait-- Jesus Christ is Risen Today.

*glee* My step-grandmother is ultra-religious (we're not sure exactly what religion save for the fact that it is not the same as ours and so consequently all her step-grandchildren have been assured we're headed for a warm spot when we die). Where this becomes fun is that one of her hobbies is writing hymns in small booklets that she distributes to the family every year at Christmas. Finally, it seems, I've found a way to derive some enjoyment from them. XD Thanks for sharing!
