The Millennium is upon us. I buy something online today- from Singapore but priced in US dollars of course: 'international money,' my father used to call it; and up comes the bill:

TOTAL: 35.00 USD
From credit card xxxxxxxxx: 33.46CD.

This has never happened, not *once*, in all the decades I've been a (credit)card-carrying adult. And I cherish it, I cherish it with all the fervour of someone who used to get statements saying

TOTAL: 35.00 USD
From credit card xxxxxxxxx: 54.46CD.

Otherwise Detective Bluecat 5 is pwning me flat. Alas, this month I evidently don't understand Japanese. Or not Motoni's Japanese, in any case.

It seems so crazy doesn't it?

The end is niiiighhhhh!!!
(Go buy! Go buy!)

It won't last- it never does- but in the meantime my gawd is it sweet. If you buy online. Going to the store and still seeing 'US 8.95/ Canada 12.95' on books and magazines bites hard.

It's become a speculative bubble. XD 50-year high I think? Spend while it lasts; oh if I only had the income.

Envy, envy, envy, envy.

(Maybe it'll last until I can find myself a job in Canada? I can hope.)

You know we're all gonna carpetbag up across the border while supplies last, right?

[identity profile] flemmings.livejournal.com 2007-11-05 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
You'll pass the Massed Hordes carpetbagging down to get the bargains stateside. To date, half a dozen major retailers including Walmart have announced they're slashing prices just to keep the Massed Hordes buying here.

Oh yes! But come back soon to take advantage of this quite literally once in a lifetime situation. (OK, it's twice in my lifetime, but sheesh, I was 7 the last time and got a quarter a week allowance.)

I believe it. For years we've had weekend shoppers from BC hitting our store for the bargains. Not only am I in off-price retail, but Oregon has no sales tax.
