Fine. Birthday meme: three events, two births and one death for January 9:

Three events:

1349 - The Jewish population of Basel, Switzerland is rounded up and incinerated, believed by the residents to be the cause of the ongoing bubonic plague.

1905 - According to the Julian Calendar which was used at the time, Russian workers stage a march on the Winter Palace that ends in the massacre by Czarist troops known as Bloody Sunday, setting off the Russian Revolution of 1905.

1964 - Several Panamanian youths try to put up the Panamanian flag on the US-controlled Panama Canal Zone, during the fight the Panama flag is torn, setting off four days of fighting between US armed forces and civilian Panamanians around the country. This day is known as Martyrs' Day.

Two births:
1913 - Richard Nixon, 37th President of the United States (d. 1994)
1958 - Mehmet Ali Ağca, Turkish attempted assassin of Pope John Paul II

One death:
1873 - Emperor Napoleon III of France (b. 1808)

Happy Losers' Day to me. I'm going to bed.

ETA: no, I'm serious. Look at what happened on January 10th. Caesar crossed the Rubicon, and that was just for starts. Lang's Metropolis! Paine's Common Sense! Tintin! Wikipedia! Rompin' Ronnie Hawkins! Giselle MacKenzie! True, it ends with 'Margaret Thatcher Day in the Falklands' but you can't win them all.

Maaan. I know. On my day, the Globe Theatre in London, England burns to the ground, there were a lot of football events, and Bush had a colonoscopy.

Sooo what you're trying to say is that you're Yet Another Calamity?

Oh. I think that trumps mine any day of the week. Bush had a colonoscopy! Earth-shaking news! Quick, put in it Wikipedia!

Thanks, I feel better.

Well, you know. Once is an accident, twice is a coincidence, three times is profilable pattern. And I mean- Me and Joan Baez and Simone de Beauvoir. What a trio.

My boss's birthday is April 14, the date the Titanic sank. Another person I work with was born the day that Kennedy was shot, and our webmaster's birthday is September 11. Doom, doom, doom...

Uh, I should say, born the DATE that Kennedy was shot, not the SAME DAY. Cripes.

No great difference, surely? (Just spent a happy morning being wanky at fanficrants and informing little fangirls that 60 years ago average life expectancy really wasn't 35, no really it wasn't, even though we all know WW2 ended in the Middle Ages a short while after the crusades.)

OTOH I'd be tempted to look for new work with all that bad karma floating about.
