The gripes of wrath

(I know. Someone must have used that before me and said this before me. Kamawan'. It's my turn now.)

Would it be so difficult for livejournal to distinguish between 'people I want to read' and 'people I want to read me'? I know there are filters, but it's extra steps to add people to filters when I've friended them, and extra steps to go to 'custom' when I post what ought to be a simple friends-locked post. Ordinarily I just go to the journal itself to read someone I don't feel like addressing, but there's this current fashion for eye-searing colours and tiny fonts. If I want them in black on white, I have to friend them. Pfui.

(PS: The gripes are not sweetened by the current rabbit-eyed headcold-and-allergy cocktail.)

There's nothing to be done about the need for filters as far as I know, but you can impose your own journal style on any journal or comment page by adding "?style=mine" on the end of the link, like this - http://www.livejournal.com/community/metafandom/?style=mine

It should work as long as you are logged in. =)

Qwerty, you are invaluable, Seimei cried for perhaps the fiftieth time. I'd heard of the famous "/?style=mine" and knew that comments would (theoretically) revert to old style if you checked the right box- there are some people this trick seems not to work with. But I didn't realize you could manually override lj styles. Which is tiresome to do every time but not nearly as tiresome as filtering.

I go to defriend the eye-searers.

Like [livejournal.com profile] petronia. For anyone's next trick, figure a way to uncustomize her comments page. Ticking boxes doesn't work.

Hee. I had no idea either,.I just decided to test it out when you mentioned the problem and was surprised it works too. =)

Yes! Yes! I guessed it might be this, and just tested - for comments pages, just add ?style=mine to the link - there's no slash. Like so:
http://www.livejournal.com/users/petronia/366756.html?style=mine
I pwn petronia's comments page! =D

This might be more trouble than it's worth, but if you're running Firefox you might want to try this (http://www.livejournal.com/community/lj_nifty/124660.html). It seems to work on everything, journals, communities, comment links, at least for me.

Ahhah!! You pwn the internets! And now I can read [livejournal.com profile] mikeneko's friends list again without scrolling. All hail qwerty!
