Yesterday was appalling for various reasons, starting with a classic Bad Knee Day and continuing through the neighbourhood open mic thing, where various amateurs of dubious talent sing and play in front of various people's houses. There's always one out in the alleyway back of me, which can be dealt with by closing windows and retreating to the side room. But this year there was a venue two doors south of me, in the wide front pathway shared by Sadie's mom and Good Neighbour Chris. And it started with-- well, all I can call it is Noise. Two hyper-amplified guitars and a drum set and someone howling lyrics into the microphone. They started with the whiny version of Hallelujah- I actually couldn't make out the lyrics but you could hear that the whine was there- and that was the last identifiable piece of music they did. After that there was no discernible melody or lyrics, just wall o ' sound. And if they always play at those decibels they must surely be deaf and unaware of how unmusical they are.

("We're available for parties, weddings, and bar mitzvahs." I assume that was a joke )

Couldn't take this for five hours so limped out to the LCBO up and over, and stopped at Farm Boy for a california roll, and then to Loblaws for pharmaceuticals. And occurred to me to buy some ibuprofen, that I used for my knees until it stopped working nearly a decade ago. So took two of those with a Starbuck's cold brew-- also located in Loblaws and replacing the much nicer one in the old bank across the street-- and after half an hour everything was tickety-boo with my knee and I came back home in a more cheerful mood. I believe  my doctor doesn't want me taking NSAIDs at all, but sorry. Anyway, ibuprofen has to be marginally less risky than my old gout medicine anti-inflams, so I shall keep on with it during these waterlogged and hence painful months.
