Sovay was talking about The Last Battle. I have no problem with eschatological Christianity positing an end of the world as a eucatastrophe. Christians are Like That. What got me down as a kid and why I will never reread the book again is its (probably still eschatological but sheesh bring me the head of whoever included John's psilocybin drug trip on Patmos in the biblical canon) insistance that the good guys cannot win, that blatant manipulation of stupid people by the evil clever will always be triumphant. This is not what I want to believe on the day of an American election.

Not taking any bets here about whether the Uk goes similarly wabbling to the Conservatives in a few years, but this doesn’t make me optimistic.

Having a Gods of the Copybook Headings moment.
