Dentist today. Was supposed to have been early December but I was still limping about then, and also didn't have money, and also also didn't have the codeine cough syrup that prevents the spasmodic cough that always ensues when the temps are above freezing-- as they were for most of last month-- and I'm lying on my back. I thought the current cold snap would obviate the need for the cough syrup I at last screwed out of my doctor (and only half the usual amount: seriously, woman) but no, dryness from heating causes dry cough. So I had a swig of that and played the usual game of Will I be able to get a cab at 1 p.m. on a day when it snowed (answer: yes, though the dispatcher first said she had no one in my area and there wouldn't be anyone for at least thirty minutes). Codeine really does not like me. Did not cough, did have a slight lifting of the spirits, but mostly felt like crap through the hour long appointment.
Was supposed to just be a cleaning but of course one of my fillings was cracked and I opted to fix it then and there rather than spend another $50 on cabs. Dentist recommends a crown on that tooth but says I could have a bridge if I don't mind losing two teeth on the anchoring side. Could possibly have implants only the sinuses on that side make my teeth ache on a regular basis so I think not. And though it might be nice to have a full set of teeth on the right side again after decades of two missing, I can't think it worth the expense and hassle for a mere ten years. Everyone seems to die at 84 so I assume I will too, if not sooner. So crown it is-- eventually.
Codeine did have its other occasional side effect of making movement easier. Which was as well because the sidewalks were a mess in my area. Evidently everyone on the east side of my street decided that an inch or two of snow wasn't worth shoveling, even if it was light stuff that could be swept away with a broom-- as I did, hem hem. Or the bobcats came along the west side and scraped some of it off, to be followed by city workers dumping quantities of salt in the bobcats' wake, making a soupy icy mess. This was no fun at all to push a walker over, and I get to do it again tomorrow when I go for physio, cramping and twanging in the absence of muscle relaxing codeine.
