Oddly chuffed at having finished a BL manga but also rolling my eyes at why I ever read BL in the first place. One of Ozawa Kuriko's, with wavy-haired kohl-eyed blushing salarymen discovering that no they are not in love with the shachou's daughter after all, they love her brother/ their roommate/ the louche intruder who is actually a company agent tracking industrial spies. Note also occurrence of that unlikely trope, 'my parents are divorced and remarried so they bought me this huge manshon to live in, big enough for two.' At least it's not as unlikely as that other one, 'I am a high-school student living in a manshon of my own and paying the rent from my P/T job at 7/11.'

Anyway, one Japanese book down for the reading challenge and one more for the TBR. Though I'm not sure manga should count for either.

Irene had better hope that nobody ever compares the rent of her London flat with the fees she gets for freelance translation jobs. :)

In that universe the assumption is perhaps that she's a kept woman? Poverty-level profession, handsome young man in residence (until he isn't), then noted closeness to aristocratic sleuth...

What an excellent idea.

(makes note)

(or even just having people assume she's some sort of underworld figure would work)

BL is like junk food, it doesn't have to have anything beyond enjoyment. Besides, the plots and characters of most operas are simplistic and stupid too, but I still love them. I think manga counts, especially if you're reading them in Japanese.

Oh my god of course manga counts ... if 'graphic novels' count, why not manga?
... and ahahaha yes BL is so definitely junk food!

It would be more like junk food if it didn't take so long. As it is, between weakening eyes and decaying Japanese, the investment doesn't seem worth the time.

Well, but I'm not sure graphic novels *do* count...

I have to tell myself they do though otherwise I *really* wouldn't have read anything... and that will just make my heart sad.

Even kiddy books with pictures count because also sometimes that is ALL I have energy for. (There's nothing like a pick me up from 'Where the Wild Things Are' and good ol' Dr Seuss which there is an abundance of. ^_^)
