Yesterday began warm after lows of 68F, but a grateful wind blew, so by afternoon we were 'rare as a day in June'ing once again. And once again I went for dinner at that Bathurst St restaurant and indulged in a hamburger. Hamburgers generally disagree with me, but every so often I get the yearning for one. And then I had chicken souvlaki and then I went to the yuppie super and had a red velvet cupcake and really this can't go on. So today, after buying veg at the greengrocer, I went to the restaurant across the street, which has changed hands many times since I was there last nearly 40 years ago. The cooks are, at a guess, Thai, but they also have cocktails, alas, quite respectable Singapore Slings, which my normal hangout doesn't. Cocktails did not in fact erase my owies as I'd hoped they might. Nothing erases the owies except my own gin, in large quantities, but that's something I want to stay away from.

Why I have owies in these wonderful dry cool days I don't know. Owies follow no logic. But it was indeed a beautiful day, long sleeve weather and sun and breeze. We get another day of it before reverting to our usual TO mug. I know that summers were always given to leaden muggings but memory insists there were more days like this in the mid-80s. Memory is selectively channeling 1985 because the worst summers were from '87 on. Still have scars from those.

But the Ontario strawberries are now in season so I've stopped having overnight oats for breakfast and have flax cereal with strawberry instead. Contrary to all logic, cold cereal fills me up more than oatmeal and yoghurt and several varieties of frozen berries. Can easily make it to lunch on cereal, whereas I get hungry 90 minutes after my oats and then wind up at a coffee shop having pastry.
