Ah well. Had great plans for May being the month I get serious about exercise and diet. No more pastry, no cheese, no chocolate, no alcohol, little starch, walk outside whenever possible, and minimum 20 minutes on the bike machine.

I have managed the last two.

I can manage the alcohol thing as well so long as there's no alcohol in the house. But there is in fact a large bottle of Cinzano, whose taste I dislike, and when my back started spasming from standing too long I dug it out for its relaxing properties. Back is still spasming, I am still tippling.

Pastry comes from taking my daily walk to coffee shops which have cookies and cakes. Takes only a minute to add 'and a croissant' to my latte order. Flesh and spirit are both weak. Chocolate is a craving. Endorphins, I assume. I calm it with hot chocolate because I absolutely must not have chocolate bars in the house.

Cheese isn't that bad because I got a kind I'm not wild about, to melt on top of baked sweet potato, and I don't have crackers to eat with it. But I have to stop eating rice because I eat too much when I make it, and add butter as often as not. (Really, when I was scared into low carbiness eighteen months ago, what on earth did I eat for starch? Sure wasn't rice or pasta. Maybe a heavy rye bread? Because I certainly wasn't filling up on protein.)
