Grinch

My aunt's retirement home actually had a concert of Christmas carols yesterday. Carollers and young kids, cheerfully amateurish and upbeat. Such a pleasant change. But to make up for it, the radio station this morning's taxi driver was tuned to played Santa Baby for half the ride.

I would have been wanting to murder someone after that much Santa Baby. Yay for classic carols cheerfully sung.

I think I hate it even more than Rocking Around the Christmas Tree. There seems to be an agreement amongst muzak providers and pop radio stations that no mention of Jesus must mar the celebration of Jesus' birthday, unless it's The Little Drummer Boy.

There was a line from Pratchett once referencing the UK television schedules and certain movies that used to come round every Christmas. "Next Christmas, when once again the TV reminds you that a saviour was born on Earth and his name is James Bond..."

I'm seeing many references to Die Hard as a Christmas movie, which I can't even.

(13-year-old friend tells me a joke: 'Why do you always see teenaged girls in groups of three or five or seven? Because they can't even.')

I'm not sure I get it either.

(Sigh.)
