Or else they wouldn't put stinky softener sheets into their dryers and spill the resulting stench through the neighbourhood. Bad enough in the wash, say I, but the dryer sheets are the worst. There are children I hate to be near because their clothes smell so badly.

The other stinky thing is vinyl non-slip mats for the tub. I have someone crashing at my place for the next week, and- acutely aware that my standards of 'clean' are not as other people's- decided to get a new bath mat because the hard-water/ mold/ soap scum discolourations on the bottom of my mat no longer respond to bleach. But oh yuck the smell! Maybe my crashee will ignore the occasional little brown rings? (Then there's the shower curtain itself, oh dear...)

Then again, other people may not smell these things at all. Sensitivities are weird that way. The older of the two Little Girls hogs the remote and keeps the volume level at 2 because other people turn the sound up to where it hurts her ears. Apparently when they do family night watching, she wears ear-plugs so her parents (and, presumably, uncomplaining younger sister) can actually hear the dialogue.

My parents dislike the smell of the conditioner I use when doing the laundry - it's not so much that they don't like the smell of my clothing, but when I'm visiting home and my clothing goes in the laundry with theirs, the smell carries over onto their clothing, and they don't like that.

So for a couple of weeks before visiting home, I wash my clothing without conditioner, so it'll be "clean" by the time it gets to their washing machine. No great hassle. ;)

'Fine on you but not on us'? I suppose I can see that, just. Why do you use conditioner? To avoid static cling?

(I wear cotton and cotton blends and tend to air dry, so static is rarely a problem. But I remember waaay back when I was office-employed and ran more to polyester blends and could get electric shocks when removing clothes from the dryer.)

To be honest, I think it's a combination of liking the smell, and pure habit. It doesn't inconvenience me to omit it for a few weeks.
