rachaelmanija is asking about most hated songs and people are running in to offer my favourites (someone disliked Bread and Butter? Sheesh. Some people got no sensa frivolity. And Chirpy-chirpy-cheep-cheep? How could you miss the surreal horror of that one?) Interesting also the people who hate songs for their message, not the head-banging tune, because otherwise I can't account for disliking all versions of the Cherry-tree Carol or The Cat Came Back. Or 'anything from Carousel since it all combines into one big Stand By Your Man paean' because the one Carousel song everyone knows is subtextually Christian and actually promises that the Man will stand by you.

So I was going to mention my pet hate, Do the Jerk, do the jerk at work (repeat 50 million times.) Except those aren't the lyrics. It's Too legit, too legit to quit-- and I watch it on youtube and he's *still* saying Do the jerk, do the jerk at work, no really he is.

LOL! People compare these things? I haven't heard Do the Jerk, I'll have to go find it and listen to it.

MC Hammer, and you have to google 'Too legit, too legit to quit'. Three seconds will do.

Also a bunch of young'uns what have never heard of Macarthur Park and are now squealing in disbelief.

Also a bunch of people-my-age who for some reason hate American Pie. This makes me sad.

There's only one song I actually dislike, and that's because the radio over played it when I was young, not because the song is bad. I will go google your very funny song!

Which song is that?

Nobody these days remembers "Hold a chicken in the air, stick a deckchair up your nose..." or however that one went.

For which thank goodness.

Not even me. Must be an over 'ome thing.

Oh dear, yes I totally see "Do the Jerk"! Ha ha ha ha! The song over played in my youth is Midnight at the Oasis. Sends me screaming every time. LOL!

I have *no idea* how he manages to make legit sound like jerk, but I'm glad someone else hears it too.

And agreed. Not an outstanding song to start with, and played everywhere.

It was a song done by Spitting Image in the mid-eighties. (I had to look it up to remember who actually did it. I'd forgotten everything but the annoying lyrics and tune.)

omg, Chirpy-chirpy-cheep-cheep. I think that song is just too surreal to hate.

Currently I would pay good money to never again hear Let It Go in either its English or Japanese version. I have been out and heard it, in the same establishment, no less, 5 times in an hour. Too much is too much.

I agree with you about Chirpy etc.

I've never heard Let It Go in its proper form. (No, OK, once. Had no objections to it then.) But have heard it a million times as sung by two small loud girls with no ear to speak of, so can believe people hate it with a fiery passion.
