Not-Wednesday-reading reading post

Henh. Turns out I've read three of the ten Nebula-nom novels, and would have read four if Hild hadn't had 540 holds on it in our library system. Since I've usually never heard of most of the nominees (the way I've still never heard of any of the novellas or short stories) I shall call this a gain.

[livejournal.com profile] rosefox is reading an advance copy of the new Cornell, sequel to London Falling, and has put their finger precisely on what the problem is with Cornell: "These may look like urban fantasy novels, but they're really horror novels with a thin coating of urban fantasy to make the bitter pill a little easier to swallow." It didn't work that well in London Rising, which traumatized me, so I'm reluctant to read the gory sequel. A pity, since Cornell's characters are so intriguing, and, yanno, *good* urban fantasy set in London is such a rare beast; but I can't be doing with horror at all.
