Autumn really is a lovely time of year. The air smells beautiful; the leaves are yellow in the sun; the days are warm and the nights are cool and one gets as close to perfection as this earth is capable of.

What have you just finished reading?
Shadows over Baker St, the Holmes/ Lovecraft compilation. Largely forgettable, and tending to reinforce my grumpy conviction that Americans just don't have the ear to pastiche English writers and should stop trying. Grumpiness not helped by Lovecraftian ethos that different = terrifying = wrong = threat to all of humanity. You're not talking about Older Gods, Howard, you're talking about blacks and Poles and Jews, and we all know it.

What are you reading now?
Laurie King, Pirate King, because I never learn. Don't know how long I'll last with it, but there's a long weekend coming up.

Jes Battis, Night Child. Indifferent UF set in Vancouver, but nowhere near as indifferent as oh Suzanne McLeod or Caitlin Kittredge or any number of authors feted on this site, which I will use as an anti-rec. Five stars for the idiocies of Spell-crackers and only three for the Parasol Protectorate? Ridiculous.

Ono, House of Five Leaves, which goes down easily enough in spite of those fish-like wibbly mouths that originated with Mizushiro Setona (unless the wibbles started with Hagio Moto, which they may have.) Lord but manga-reading seems like such a long ago activity. I've forgotten all the names, a side-effect of no longer having Aestheticism for reference.

What will you read next?
The King book, maybe; A Samba for Sherlock, maybe- am intrigued by those multilingual reviews at goodreads. Some more of those indifferent UFs bought second-hand down the street, maybe.
